Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) is the official destination marketing organisation (DMO) for the city of Glasgow.
As a public / private company established by Scott Taylor for Glasgow City Council in 2005, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau’s role is to communicate Glasgow’s reputation as a world-class city in which to live, work, study, invest and visit.
As custodian of the Glasgow: Scotland with style brand, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau works with partners, stakeholders and businesses to position and promote Glasgow across national and international markets as one of Europe’s most vibrant, dynamic and diverse cities.
Employing 55 people, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau is engaged in a wide-range of activity aimed at delivering economic and social benefits for Glasgow through leisure and business tourism. This activity comprises:
Strategic destination marketing communications campaigns in target markets
- Development and implementation of the Glasgow: Scotland with style city brand
- Bidding for, attracting and managing high-profile major events, conventions and exhibitions
- Responsibility for conference and event accommodation bookings
Business tourism secured by Glasgow City Marketing Bureau since its inception has been worth more than £800 million to the city’s economy, which equates to three million hotel delegate room nights.
In the last financial year (2011/12), GCMB secured new conventions business to the city worth more than £120 million – representing a 10% year-on-year growth in domestic and international conference business won in the face of tough trading conditions.
Today, conference delegates account for one in five hotel beds sold in the city, underscoring the importance of conventions to Glasgow’s economy.
Glasgow City Marketing Bureau has also been named the UK’s Best Convention Bureau for the past six years by the influential industry magazine Meetings & Incentive Travel (M&IT). In 2012, the Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre (SECC) made it a double celebration for the city by picking up the Best UK Conference Centre title.
Glasgow City Marketing Bureau is supported by a board offering expertise from a range of sectors and professions. The Chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau is Councillor Gordon Matheson and the Chief Executive is Scott Taylor.
