Member’s profile: AECC
In 2019 a brand new state-of-the-art venue will open its doors in the North-East of Scotland. The new Aberdeen venue will boast a massive 47,000m2 of internal event space; an impressive offering with flexible spaces allowing for a wide range of events to be held in the venue.
The development incorporates three on-site hotels with a cumulative 500 bedrooms; including the recently announced 4-star Hilton, which has direct access into the venue and accounts for 200 of the onsite rooms.
With outdoor green areas and an on-site energy centre; the new venue is set to be the most sustainable building in the UK continuing the ethos established by Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC), the first venue in Scotland to achieve ISO20121, the international standard for event sustainability.
The current venue, located 10 minutes from the city centre, is Scotland’s second largest Conference and Exhibition Centre and offers a combined exhibition space of 9,000m² with plenary capacity for 2,000. A first class team dedicated to delivering world class service the expert teams at AECC have many years’ experience and aim to provide the best service for all clients and visitors.
Opened in 1985 as a permanent home for Europe’s largest offshore exhibition, Offshore Europe, which today attracts around 63,000 visitors from more than 100 worldwide locations. AECC attracts around 600 events per year and around 300,000 visitors from a range of sectors including national and international conferences, exhibitions, concerts, comedy and ice shows, live sporting events, banqueting and corporate events.
In 2014/15 the venue was ranked 11th in the UK for hosting international meetings by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and were the only British venue to be nominated for the AIPC APEX Awards in 2016 (which is decided by client nominations, rather than an awards entry process). As founding members of the Aberdeen Ambassador Network, AECC adopt a collaborative approach; working with local experts at key research institutions in the region to identify, attract and support large associations in bringing their annual meetings, national and international conferences to Aberdeen.
