I have worked at the Royal Society of Medicine since 2010, having started as an Event Co-ordinator I worked my way to become an Events Team Manager in 2013. In July 2016 I moved to a different part of the business as Senior Manager heading up RSM professionals.
The RSM is one of the UK’s largest providers of post graduate medical education offering around 400 events across 56 specialties every year. The majority of these meetings are run under the academic programme, fulfilling the charitable aims and objectives of the Society.
RSM professionals is the commercial arm of the organisation developing and running bespoke courses and conferences. The team have worked incredibly hard over the past few years building a portfolio of events which run outside of the academic programme. We work with external organisations as joint partners or as their PCO to run a variety of events. With a portfolio that spans the full career cycle of medics and other healthcare professionals we’re proud to have something for every grade, whether it’s an OSCE exam preparation course, specialty interview course for trainees, professional development course or an update conference.
Since taking on the role I have worked to develop and maintain relationships with existing partners, brought on new clients (many of whom are now returning for another year), increased attendance and the number of events. We were also in a position to grow the team by taking on an additional project co-ordinator.
Over the next few years I will be working with our Business Development Manager to explore ways of further increasing our presence, client base and event portfolio.
I have been heavily involved in promoting best practice within the Department and act as a main point of contact for interdepartmental relationships for a number of different areas of the RSM. I am part of an intercollegiate event managers group. Our aim is to facilitate discussion and share ideas for better working for events professionals within the medical royal colleges, associated organisations and societies.
I am a highly motivated events professional and have taken a keen interest over the past few years in finding out more about the industry and how the RSM as an organisation can rise above the competition. I can communicate effectively and professionally with both internal and external stakeholders, developing and maintaining a good working relationship at all levels.
