Member’s profile: Sammy Williams
I have been working in the events industry for over 10 years, firstly with the largest local authority in Europe – Birmingham City Council leading on internal conferences for the council employees ranging from conferences, barcamps, outdoor events, seminars and gala dinners. After completing my Masters in Events and Exhibition Management, this led me to the UK’s largest stroke charity – The Stroke Association.
As the UK’s leading stroke charity, we believe that stroke can and should be prevented, and we believe in the power of research to save lives. There are more than 100,000 strokes in the UK each year; that is around one stroke every five minutes with over 1.2 million stroke survivors in the UK.
The Stroke Association hosts the UK Stroke Forum which is a coalition over 30 organisations all committed to improving stroke care in the UK. The team organise two annual multidisciplinary conferences for healthcare professionals – a three-day event for 1500 attendees and a one-day event for 200 attendees.
Our aim is to provide opportunities for all stroke professionals and researchers to come together so they can learn from each other, share ideas and ultimately improve standards of care for stroke survivors.
As the UK Stroke Forum Relationship and Business Manager I lead the UKSF team, manage the coalition, together with all of the committees, governance, finances and business development. I am a massive lover of tea, horse riding, positive vibes and of course cake – feel free to follow me on Twitter @sammiella.
