DESCRIPTION:Course overviewThis workshop explores the sometimes murky subject of contract law and its application within the commercial setting of meeting venues.\n\nDesigned for event organisers and venues, the session will help you develop a greater understanding of venue contracts and their management. It covers the legalities of specific contract terms, effective negotiation,  service level agreements and planning for the unknown/unexpected.  Attendees will be invited to share their own experiences and any specific issues as part of a closing discussion and Q&A.\n\nThe session lead is Nick Milne, an independent training and management consultant to the hospitality industry. Nick is an Emeritus Fellow at Robinson College, Cambridge following his 20 years as Domestic Bursar and Head of Conference and Catering Services, after a long career in the hotel sector.\n\nThe workshop is being hosted by ABPCO Industry Partner, Liverpool Experience Campus.  Attendees will have the option of touring the campus after the ABPCO workshop.\n\nLight refreshments will be served from 10am with the Workshop running from 10.30 - 1.30pm.  Lunch will be served from 1.30pm with an optional venue tour to follow from 2pm.\n\nLearning outcomesBy the end of this workshop, you will:\n\nDevelop a greater understanding of the basic principles of contracts and how to make them work best through negotiationBetter understand the legalities of relevant contract terms that can be applied to address identified concerns, and help make contracts work better for youExplore the provision and inclusion of SLA’s in the contracting processDiscuss issues of specific attendees’ interest in a Q and A sessionWho will benefitAnyone responsible for reviewing and/or managing venue contracts, including in-house and agency event professionals, and venue employees.\n\nCourse outlineBasic Principles of ContractsNegotiationPlanning for the Unknown and UnexpectedRisk ManagementPricing and Payment termsCustomer Obligations/Venue RightsService Level AgreementsOpen Discussion/Q&A
