Events Manager

The Faraday Institution

The Faraday Institution is the UK’s independent institute for electrochemical energy storage research, skills development, market analysis, and early-stage commercialisation. Our mission is to make significant scientific breakthroughs in battery technology research in the global race to electrification in the effort to tackle climate change. We manage large research programmes across more than 20 universities involving 450 researchers and 50 industry partners across the UK. You would be joining a small but vibrant head office team.

Due to a recent expansion of activities, the Faraday Institution is looking to appoint a dynamic self-starter to the new role of Events Manager. Their mission will be to lead on the conception, planning, delivery and analysis of events to meet a variety of objectives: raising our visibility and reputation, disseminating our pioneering research, and facilitating collaboration, development and engagement opportunities with and between our researchers. We currently envision a new model for the annual conference with universities bidding to host the next event in the summer of 2023, which could be in-person, hybrid event or on-line. The Event Manager will be a key part of successfully delivering this.

Working collaboratively with multiple teams across the organisation, the Events Manager will ensure the planning and smooth running of events designed for a range of different audiences, and with different delivery models. The role would suit a resilient and confident individual who can operate largely under their own initiative, at both a strategic and operational level, and who thrives on working in a fast-paced environment on a variety of projects.

Roles and responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Events Manager will support the Faraday Institution Head office team in all events and with specific responsibilities for:

  • Working with the CEO, as required, to develop the event portfolio for the Faraday Institution.
  • Defining and maintaining the Faraday Institution events calendar, aligning it with the organisataion’s strategy and its engagement plan for a variety of stakeholder groups, including academia, industry, and policy makers.
  • Setting overall conference strategic direction with the CEO and be responsible for the delivery of the 500+ delegate Faraday Institution conference, helping to further establish the organisation’s reputation as a national convener for battery science.
  • Working with the Early Career Researcher (ECR) Committee to support an annual conference providing personal development opportunities for both attendees and the committee. Support and advise the committee, ensure it owns planning and delivery, and that quality standards are met.
  • Defining, planning, executing and reviewing certain other in-person or virtual events (which may include international seminars, expert panel meetings, outreach events, cohort building events and webinars), delivering them within budget and maximising their value.
  • Refining a framework for selecting external (industry) events for Faraday Institution and Faraday Battery Challenge involvement that aligns with strategic objectives.
  • Plan, execute and review the Faraday Institution’s involvement in externally produced industry exhibitions, collaborating with Faraday Battery Challenge partners to define objectives and integrated delivery where needed.
  • Working with the Communications Lead and Digital and Social Media Co-ordinator to promote events and celebrate their success.

Our work is changing at pace to adapt to current circumstances and opportunities and as such this role will constantly evolve to encompass new programmes and events, with plenty of potential for increasing levels of involvement with strategic planning.
