High Profile Conference Confirmed at AECC for 2017

Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) is to welcome another conference to the city centralising around high value natural products.

The International Conference for Natural Product Biotechnology (ICNPB) will be taking place at AECC on 25th-26th September 2017 and it’s the first time the event has been hosted in Aberdeen since launching in 2009.

ICNPB is a significant conference to the biotechnology industry which attracted 300 delegates in 2014 for businesses and individuals interested in high value natural compounds, their application in drug discovery, nutrition, personal care products and other biotech uses.

The Director of ICNPB 2014, Jim Brown, was delighted to be able to announce the event to the audience attending the annual gathering of the industry in Scotland, held in Oban last week.

“Scotland is uniquely placed to host this conference”, Brown told the AECC. “We don’t just have the natural resources and genuinely world-class research institutions, but there’s a joined-up community of individuals and business from right across the value chain, with the vision to ensure that we maintain our leading position in the sector.”

Brown went on to praise Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), and their partners in Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International as strong supporters of the biotechnology sector, commissioning the first Scottish conference back in 2009, and helping establish the structure of the sector ever since.

The International Conferences on Mechanisms of Action of Nutraceuticals (ICMAN) will take place following ICNBP from 27th-29th September 2017 and the conference will bring together leading researchers, academics, medical practitioners, industry professionals and government officials to review several disciplines of science and medicine dealing with chronic conditions and health and wellness issues in which nutraceuticals can play a part.  Aberdeen was chosen as the host destination for the 2017 conference due to the accessibility of the city and AECC as well as the common ground between ICNBP and ICMAN.

Steven Daun, AECC’s Sales Manager for the Associations market, said: “It is great that ICNPB has selected Aberdeen as the host destination for the 2017 conference. Having the ICNPB will support the programme for delegates attending ICMAN and is a fantastic opportunity for the institutions to showcase their research to an international audience and for the delegates to visit this scenic region of Scotland.”
