Academic Members

University Department Membership, is open to universities that offer events management courses that have some focus on association conferences and related activities.  We work with them to help educate their students about the world of association conferences, but also to bridge the gap between academia and professional life.

***STOP PRESS *** - New Initiative
We are keen to develop our relationships with our University Department Members and so we have put together an initiative aimed at Event Management students. The aim is to encourage our members' students to consider focussing their dissertations on appropriate research for the association and not for profit conference management sector and to then submit these dissertations to ABPCO to be entered for an industry award.  As an incentive we will be awarding £100 for each submitted dissertation that focuses on our sector.  All of the submitted dissertations will be reviewed independently and a prize of £200 awarded to the most appropriate one for ABPCO.  We believe that this will support our strategy for knowledge development, whilst also giving students an opportunity to showcase their work to the industry.  Here is the downloadable  information flyer for students.

Are you looking to engage with an events department at a University/College?  Maybe you are considering undertaking a research project, or you have the capacity to take on a graduate, an intern or a placement student?  Are you looking to give something back and mentor a student or can you offer your expertise as a guest lecturer? If so, please complete the form below with as much detail as you can, and we will liaise with our University/College Members to see how best we can help.

Looking for consultancy?

Many universities offer a range of options that could be used to handle industry projects that include:

  • Consulting - a conventional paid consulting project undertaken by researchers at the university.
  • UG Student Project - a project that could be written into a module as part of the assessment. Generally no cost but can only be initiated a few weeks prior to the commencement of a semester. Would normally be completed within the semester.
  • MSc Dissertation - many of the universities encourage their MSc students to have an industry project as the underpinning of their dissertation. Again, could only commence at a particular time of year and would be completed in a 4-5 month period.
  • PhD dissertation - a larger project could be considered as the basis for a PhD dissertation but this is a project that would be tackled over a 3 year period. Interim findings could be produced along the way.
  • Academic Research Project - academics are encouraged to undertake research projects from which academic publications would be produced. These can commence at any time.
