Experience, Role & Skills Area

A professional and highly motivated event organiser with almost two decades experience in the conference and events industry. Key skills include: professional conference organisation, leadership, team management, programme planning, marketing planning, volunteer management and of course event management. In my current role within a non-profit organisation I provide the strategic direction for the development of events which support the charity aims alongside ensuring continuous excellence and efficiency in events delivery and leading a growing team.

 

Member Profile

Spanning nearly two decades, my career in events began in the private sector before moving to charity in 2006. In my current role at Macmillan Cancer Support, I lead our Strategic Events Team. The Strategic Events Team plays a pivotal role in the organisation through the delivery of a range of conferences and events designed to engage and influence healthcare professionals, Macmillan’s partners, staff, volunteers and people living with cancer, as well as the government and the NHS. I have also led on the development and implementation of my teams advisory offer, providing guidance and expert advice on anything events related to colleagues across the organisation. I strongly believe that as a charity we need to be careful about where and how we spend our money. My work at Macmillan reflects this.

In previous roles, I organised fundraising events, launches and award ceremonies for several other charities in the UK. In my previous life in New York I worked on training and marketing events. This is an industry that I am passionate about, and I love being able to see my work and that of my team come to life through an event. Throughout my career I always look at ways to share my experience and regularly take on interns, work experience and have offered to mentor colleagues and friends who want to work in the industry. And I also continue to develop myself learning about new technologies and by finding out new ways to engage audiences through events.

I believe the work of ABPCO is hugely valuable in providing opportunities for learning, sharing and encouraging best practice, peer to peer support and setting standards for professionals working in or wanting to come into the events industry. The contacts that I have made since becoming a member have not only been useful in my work, but also personally helping to build my confidence. Since joining the board I have been even more inspired by the impact ABPCO has on the industry and its’ members.
