Cambridge Plays Host to Global Gathering on Parkinson’s Research
09 June 2025
Cambridge continues to prove itself as a world-class destination for conferences, as it welcomed the prestigious Alpha Synuclein Conference. The four-day global event brought together 400 delegates from 33 countries, uniting leading researchers, early career scientists, and individuals living with Parkinson’s disease in a shared commitment to advancing understanding and treatment of the condition.
Following previous events held in Leuven, Lisbon, and Athens, the 2025 Alpha Synuclein Conference chose Cambridge for its mix of exceptional venues, accessibility, and academic heritage.
Andrew Bell, Head at Meet Cambridge, the official conference and events bureau for Cambridge said:
“Cambridge continues to attract events that foster breakthrough thinking and real-world impact. We are able to offer a range of venues that not only offer a unique history and prestige, but also prioritise accessibility and inclusion. We were proud to support this important conference.”
Maria Grazia Spillantini, Professor of Molecular Neurology at University of Cambridge and Alpha Synuclein Conference Co-Chair said,
“We had an incredible few days in Cambridge. While research into alpha-synuclein and its role in Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diseases was central, our aim for AS2025 was to go beyond the science. Cambridge provided the perfect setting for meaningful conversations, fresh thinking and genuine collaboration — everything you want from an impactful event. Delegates also thoroughly enjoyed the social side, with unforgettable experiences like dining in the historic surroundings of King’s College."
Conference venues across Cambridge provided a rich and varied backdrop for networking and collaboration. Delegates were welcomed with a reception at the Museum of Zoology, offering a memorable experience among Cambridge’s renowned natural history collections, while the main sessions took place at West Road Concert Hall.
Two special dinners highlighted the event: a formal conference dinner at Magdalene College, where participants reflected on shared progress and future goals, and a gala dinner at King’s College, providing an iconic setting to close the event.
Speakers and organisers were accommodated at Gonville and Caius College, further embedding the conference within the historic and academic heart of the city.
