The NEC Group (“Group”) has announced that in 2023, colleagues raised £38,024.31 for their nominated Charity of the Year, Alzheimer's Research UK.

The funds raised by staff from across the Group’s venues (NEC, ICC, Vox, Utilita Arena Birmingham, Resorts World Arena) will directly contribute to cutting-edge research projects that will bring about new, life-changing dementia treatments.

Mark Charlampowicz, Catering General Manager and NEC Group Charity Committee Lead said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to raise money for such a worthy cause and one so close to many of our colleagues' hearts. I’d like to thank everyone at the NEC Group for their contributions and generosity this year and helping Alzheimer's Research UK continue their incredible work.”

The total of funds raised was announced at the Group’s annual staff awards ceremony. Representatives from Alzheimer's Research UK were presented with the cheque by Mark and Francesca Rigby, Senior Insight & Data Analyst, who is also a member of the Group’s charity committee.

Lucy Squance, Director of Supporter Led Fundraising at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to the NEC Group for partnering with us in 2023 and raising over £38,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK. It’s been a fantastic partnership. We’ve seen so much enthusiasm from NEC colleagues for fundraising events, such as the football tournament, battle the board bowling, and their Snowdon hike.

“We are also incredibly grateful for NEC Group’s support through its big screens in the NEC and the ICC in Birmingham, which has helped spread awareness for our Think Brain Health Check-in and our new campaign film, Change The Ending. This will no doubt have had a huge impact, raising awareness of the need to find a cure for dementia. Thank you, NEC Group, for your fantastic support. We wish you all the very best for 2024 and beyond.”

Alzheimer's Research UK is dedicated to bringing about life-changing treatments, and ultimately a cure for people affected by dementia. The Group has supported the charity on its vision for a world free from the heartbreak of dementia, by raising funds and awareness for dementia and the need for a cure.
