Job Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and well-organised Events Assistant to support the planning and delivery of ABN’s events programme. This varied and rewarding role is ideal for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in events and stakeholder coordination within a national medical membership organisation. The successful candidate will work closely with the Events & Business Development Manager and wider ABN team.
About the ABN
The ABN is the professional body for neurologists in the United Kingdom. Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of people with neurological disorders by advancing the knowledge and practice of neurology in the British Isles. The ABN is a dynamic membership society with over 2000 members, working hard to raise the voice of neurology at a national level. Some Association Highlights:
- Our annual meeting that brings together over 1000 neurologists in 4 days of celebrated speakers, topics and social events
- Running the UK’s only neurological fellowship programme, sponsoring at least 2 fellows per year and promoting neurological investigations within research.
- Running ongoing investigations into the quality of neurological services and practices through the Quality and Services Committees, that have real, meaningful impact.
- Acting as the voice for neurologists at a national level
- Bringing together the knowledge and expertise of our members who represent the majority of neurologists within the United Kingdom.

The ABN Office
The ABN is managed by a small team of 8. We work 2 days a week from our office in Bloomsbury. The office is a friendly and supportive environment where you will have the opportunity to advance your skills and work collaboratively with colleagues. You will have access to a range of training opportunities and have regular 1:1s with your line manager to ensure development needs are met.
Key Responsibilities of the Events Assistant
- Support the coordination and administration of ABN events, including conferences, webinars, and training sessions.
- Provide on-site support during all face-to-face events, including registration desk.
- Provide support for virtual events as required.
- Manage delegate registrations, confirmations, cancellations, and helpdesk enquiries.
- Manage speaker invitations.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate event records, including registration databases and feedback reports.
- Assist with preparation of event materials, including name badges, signage, session sheets, and speaker and chair packs.
- Collate post-event evaluation and feedback forms and support reporting processes.
- Provide general administrative support to the Events & Business Development function.
- Work with the website officer to update event content on the ABN website for Autumn meeting.
- Support logistics for ABNT events.
- Check membership records against event registrations.
- Help collate and design scoring form.
- Maintain accurate event history records and provide website officer with relevant updates for website.
- Help collate required information for CPD.
- Collate Sponsorship information and history in preparation for Industry meetings
- Manage ABN Posters
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Previous experience (voluntary or paid) in an administrative, customer service, or events related role.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Confident communicator (written and verbal), with a polite and professional manner
- Able to work independently, manage priorities, and respond calmly to deadlines
- IT literate, including Microsoft Office Suite and online platforms (e.g. Zoom, Teams, EventBrite)
- Willingness to work occasional early mornings, evenings, or travel within the UK
Desirable
- Experience using CRM systems, membership databases, or event registration software
- Interest in health, science, or the medical charity sector
- Experience supporting virtual or hybrid events

Contract
This is a part-time role, working 21 hours per week. This is equivalent to 60% of an ABN full time contract. Candidates should have the right to work in the UK at the time of appointment. Appointment is subject to receiving 2 satisfactory references and successfully completing a 3 month probationary period. Notice period: 1 months upon successful completion of the probationary period.
