Pitt Building Reopens Refurbished Conference Venue

Pitt Building Reopens Refurbished Conference Venue

Now bookable through Meet Cambridge

Businesses and organisations looking for a distinctive and fully equipped venue for their next event in Cambridge can now take advantage of the newly refurbished Pitt Building, available to book through Meet Cambridge, the city’s official venue-finding service for conferences and events.

A striking blend of heritage and innovation, the Pitt Building has reopened following a major upgrade, with increased capacity, new flexible layouts, and state-of-the-art technology. The transformation positions this historic building as a top-tier choice for conferences, meetings, panel discussions, corporate events, and public launches right in the heart of the city.

The building’s largest space, the Newton Room, has been reconfigured to offer significantly greater capacity. Structural pillars were removed to open up the space, making it ideal for theatre-style events, hybrid presentations, and large-scale meetings. The addition of advanced AV infrastructure, including repeater screens and full hybrid capabilities, makes it perfectly suited to today’s professional demands.

Working with Meet Cambridge, organisers can now easily access and book this newly transformed venue - one that offers both modern functionality and historic charm.

Andrew Bell, Head of Meet Cambridge, commented: “The Pitt Building is a stunning example of how historic venues can evolve to meet modern needs. We’re proud to feature it in our portfolio, helping organisations from Cambridge, across the UK and around the world find the perfect setting for their events in the city.”

In line with the upgrade, the reception area has been sympathetically restored, removing a partition wall to reveal clear views through to the courtyard and reinstate the original sense of arrival and openness. A hand-carved stone plaque, commissioned from the renowned Cardozo Kindersley Workshop, now marks this important milestone in the building’s story.

Elsewhere, the prestigious Oriel Room, where every book published by Cambridge University Press receives its official stamp of approval, has been refreshed ensuring it remains a premier space for high-level boardroom-style meetings.

Suzannah Watson, Deputy Head of Cambridge Retail & Hospitality at the Pitt Building, said: “We’re delighted to bring the Pitt Building back to life as a leading conference and event venue for Cambridge. The refurbishment has allowed us to create bright, modern spaces while restoring some of the building’s most iconic architectural features.”

The Pitt Building holds deep historical importance in Cambridge, originally housing the printing and publishing offices of Cambridge University Press for over a century. Located just minutes from Cambridge station, colleges and key city amenities, the Pitt Building is now open and accepting bookings for all types of events.
