ABPCO launches new Neurodiversity in Events Member Group

ABPCO has launched a new Member Group to help event professionals make their conferences and meetings more neuroinclusive.

The ABPCO Neurodiversity in Events Member Group will hold its first virtual meeting on 18 November. The Group will be co-chaired by Gayle McGuinn of Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) and Sian Thomas of UCISA, the member-led professional body for digital practitioners within education.

Gayle said: “Making events more neuroinclusive is both the right thing to do and good business sense. However, many event professionals are unsure where to start or how to put good practice into action. This new group will bring the community together to share ideas, learn from one another and explore practical ways to make events more inclusive.”

The launch builds on the publication earlier this year of the Making Networking Neuroinclusive guidance and the prior Neurodiversity in Events Toolkit, developed in partnership by the ABPCO Neurodiversity Taskforce, EICC and Welcome Brain Consulting. The new group will provide a further opportunity for members to share experiences and build on this work.

Sian added: “The group is designed to bring the whole events community together, including in-house event organisers, agencies, venues and suppliers. We all have something to contribute, and by sharing our experiences and ideas, we can help make events more neuroinclusive.”

The Neurodiversity in Events Member Group is free and exclusive to ABPCO members. To find out more or get involved, email hello@abpco.org.

The new group forms part of a wider refresh of ABPCO’s Member Group provision, designed to give members more opportunities to connect, share knowledge and develop their professional practice. It follows the recent launch of the Venues & Destinations Member Group, with further groups being introduced as part of the refreshed programme.
