ABPCO welcomes its first Apprentice Members

ABPCO has welcomed its first Apprentice Members, with Dom Gould and Max Owen joining the Association as it expands its support for future event professionals.

Gould is employed by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and is working towards a Level 3 Events Assistant apprenticeship. Owen works for MICE Concierge and has been studying towards a Level 3 Event Management apprenticeship.

“An event apprenticeship was the best path for me.  I like doing and I learn by practically applying knowledge to a situation, getting stuck in, and learning from others,” explains Owen.

Gould says: “I started my apprenticeship at 28, with a background in performing arts and hospitality. I chose the apprenticeship route because I knew I had a lot to bring, but wanted to expand my knowledge and develop myself in the sector.”

The ABPCO Apprentice Member Grade is open to anyone enrolled on a Level 3 event-related apprenticeship scheme who is interested in pursuing a career in business or association events. Membership is free for the duration of the apprenticeship.

ABPCO Executive Director Matt Stalker says the new grade represents another important milestone for the Association.

“We're committed to supporting future event professionals and recognise that there are various routes into the profession, including apprenticeships.

“Our new Apprentice Member Grade gives apprentices the opportunity to connect with a wider community of event professionals, develop their knowledge through additional CPD opportunities and access the benefits of being part of a professional association. It also provides employers with another way to support the development of their apprentices.”

The launch follows ABPCO's announcement that, from January 2027, university departments offering event management-related degrees will be able to join the Association for free, with their students also eligible for free membership.
