ACC Liverpool welcomed the return of Diabetes UK as it unveiled groundbreaking research during its conference.

The organisation’s annual Professional Conference returned to the waterfront venue for the second time, having last held its event there in 2014.

Healthcare professionals from all over the country gathered over three days to discuss and hear about the latest research and developments in diabetes treatment and care, and to network with more than 3,000 peers, colleagues and experts from all over the world.

Diabetes UK unveiled important, groundbreaking research during this year’s conference.  Scientists revealed the highly anticipated second year results of DiRECT (Diabetes Remission Clinical Trial) – a study which showed that weight loss can put Type 2 diabetes into remission for at least two years through a new weight management programme delivered in NHS primary care.

Bob Prattey, chief executive of The ACC Liverpool Group, said: “We are proud to provide a venue where health professionals can join together during conference, experts can share their knowledge and such important research can be unveiled.”

Some of the world’s leading medical professionals delivered keynote lectures giving exclusive insight into the latest research and understanding about diabetes treatment and care.  The conference also consisted of an exhibition, workshops and bespoke master classes.

In addition, delegates and exhibitors took part in a 5km fun run along the River Mersey.  A conference dinner took place on the rooftop venue the Garden of Eden at the Shankly Hotel in Liverpool city centre.

An Insider event will be held at  ACC Liverpool tomorrow (Sat), the day after conference ends, aimed at adults living with diabetes or the parents of children with diabetes, enabling them to hear about the latest developments unveiled during the Professional Conference.

Therese Dolan, senior events manager at Diabetes UK, said: “Our annual conference is a highlight of our event programme and this year’s event was particularly significant as we unveiled some important research to our delegates and to the wider public.

“We were pleased to return to ACC Liverpool to make this announcement and enjoyed working with the entire team who helped us to deliver another successful event.”
