In a 3 page Marketing Week special report it was highlighted that the need for organisers to “be prepared” is one of the hot topics in the conference and exhibition industry.  Tony Rogers executive Director of ABPCO agrees…”it is an extremely important subject and now a legal requirement for organisers to prepare a written risk assessment document for their events.  If things go wrong and disaster strikes, failure to produce these details to agencies such as the Health & Safety Executive could lead to legal proceedings and prosecution”

Other industry contributors advised organisers to accept the element of risk that goes into any event and prepare for the unexpected.  Suggestions included; web based registration soft ware, a detailed risk assessment for each event, event insurance, having an emergency procedures manual, staff training to handle operational crisis scenarios. Well attended seminars including Crisis Management and Health, Safety and Security for Conference Organisers run by ABPCO were also mentioned
